FRIENDS OF THE WESTERN BUDDHIST ORDER
The Friends of the Western Buddhist Order is a movement that encourages and supports engaged Buddhist practice. The various ways and means of Buddhist practice are many, and the Dharma or Teachings are diverse. An important aspect of the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order is the emphasis on effective Going for Refuge to the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. This is where meditative practice gains meaning and clarity, and tends towards practice on a day to day, moment to moment basis.
Living a Buddhist life, or a life based on Ethics, Meditation and Wisdom, in a Western culture can be challenging, and here the Sangha or Buddhist collective allows for discussion and sharing of what are often common or related issues. At the FWBO Johannesburg we hope that we will be able to contribute to a better and more understanding, compassionate world.
